Where to Stay in Turks and Caicos: Grace Bay, Long Bay or Northwest Point

Savvy JetsetterNovember 8, 20264 min read

Where to stay in Turks and Caicos mostly means choosing a part of Providenciales, the island most visitors fly into. Grace Bay suits a first visit because the beach, the resorts and the restaurants sit together. Long Bay is the quieter beach, and Northwest Point is the most secluded. Pick by how much you want within walking distance.

Where to stay in Turks and Caicos: the three bases at a glance

Providenciales has no single town centre. Visit Turks and Caicos describes the island as about 15 miles end to end, with tourism concentrated in the east and centre, and the western half largely undeveloped (visittci.com, read 8 November 2026). For the wider picture, see our Turks and Caicos destination guide.

Grace Bay: best for a first visit

Visit Turks and Caicos calls Grace Bay the centre of tourism, upscale shopping and dining, with around 25 resorts and hotels and a beach with no admission fee. It lists the airport as roughly 10 to 20 minutes away by car, depending on traffic (visittci.com, read 8 November 2026).

Two hotels to know:

  • Grace Bay Club. Its own website describes three sections on the beach: an adults-only Hotel Building, a family-friendly Villa Suites section, and the Estate Residences (gracebayclub.gracebayresorts.com, read 8 November 2026). That split makes it workable for couples and for families travelling together.
  • Beaches Turks and Caicos. An all-inclusive family resort. Its own site lists six themed villages, a 45,000 square-foot waterpark and 26 dining spots, with the Sesame Street programme for children (beaches.com, read 8 November 2026). Visit Turks and Caicos places it at the western edge of the Grace Bay area.

Who it suits: first-timers, honeymooners and families who want to walk to dinner. It is also the area where a rental car matters least.

Long Bay: best for a quieter beach

Visit Turks and Caicos describes Long Bay as a coastal residential area in the south-east with a low density of homes and rental villas, and names The Shore Club as one of its resorts (visittci.com, read 8 November 2026).

Hotel to know: The Shore Club. Its own website places it on Long Bay Beach, "minutes away from Provo's town center", with four pools, a spa and complimentary non-motorized water sports equipment such as snorkels and sea kayaks. It is a member of Leading Hotels of the World (theshoreclubtc.com, read 8 November 2026).

Who it suits: travellers who want a resort stay without the Grace Bay strip around them. Plan on a car or taxis for dinners elsewhere.

Northwest Point: best for seclusion

Amanyara sits at the far western end of Providenciales. Aman's own website describes it as set within an 18,000-acre nature reserve, with half a mile of white sand beach, reached by a single track, and lists a 25-minute drive from the airport (aman.com, read 8 November 2026).

Who it suits: travellers who want privacy and quiet more than a choice of restaurants on the doorstep. It is a very different trip from Grace Bay, so decide that first.

A note on villas and Chalk Sound

If you would rather rent a villa, Visit Turks and Caicos describes Chalk Sound as largely residential, with many private villas and very little tourism development beyond them. It says a rental car is a necessity there (visittci.com, read 8 November 2026). It also notes that many Grace Bay rentals sit inland, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the beach, and that some listings called "beachfront" are on neighbouring beaches instead.

How to choose between them

  • Choose Grace Bay if you want to walk to restaurants and shops and want the most choice of hotels.
  • Choose Long Bay if a quieter beach matters more than being on the strip.
  • Choose Northwest Point if seclusion is the point of the trip.
  • Choose Chalk Sound only if you are renting a villa and happy to drive.

Getting around: Visit Turks and Caicos states there is no organised public transport or bus service, so you will need a rental vehicle, taxi or private car outside the Grace Bay strip.
